City of Clayton to Hold Public Hearings on Proposed Property Tax Increase
CLAYTON — The City of Clayton has tentatively adopted a millage rate that would increase property taxes by 16 percent. City officials are inviting all concerned citizens to attend a series of public hearings to learn more and share their input.
Under the tentative proposal, the millage rate would rise to 7.721 mills, an increase of 1.065 mills. Without the proposed increase, the millage rate would be no more than 6.656 mills.
For a homestead property with a fair market value of $100,000, the proposed increase would amount to approximately $40.47 per year. For a nonhomestead property with a fair market value of $100,000, the increase would amount to approximately $42.60 per year.
Public Hearings
Three public hearings will be held to give residents the opportunity to comment on the proposed tax increase. Budget hearings will be held simultaneously to allow for public comment on a related budget amendment.
